Who We Are

Dan Wilson (danwilson@virginia.edu) is the Associate Director for Collection Management & Access Services at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Library. He is also the Coordinator for the National Network/Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM) National Emergency Preparedness & Response plan. In this role, he oversees the development of the national plan, works with staff and state coordinators in the eight regions of the NN/LM on preparedness and response procedures, and provides training in service continuity planning for libraries.  Dan was born in Lewistown, Pennsylvania. At the age of 6, his family moved to Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, where his father (an artist) began a long teaching career in the Art Department at Bloomsburg State College (now Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania).

Dan earned a B.S. in History at Bloomsburg State College in 1981 and then a Master of Library Sciences at the State University of New York (SUNY) Geneseo in 1982. Before joining the staff at the Claude Moore Health Sciences Library in 1991, Dan worked at Dutchess Community College (Poughkeepsie, New York) and SUNY Canton.

Susan Yowell (syowell@virginia.edu) is the project assistant for the NN/LM National Emergency Preparedness Plan. She has worked at the University of Virginia’s Health Sciences Library since 1992, first as the Circulation supervisor and now as Project Assistant. Susan maintains the Claude Moore Health Sciences Library Emergency Preparedness & Response Plan, and has also completed projects with regard to assessment/measurement of library services, space planning and collection development for the Claude Moore HSL. For NN/LM’s Emergency Preparedness & Response initiative, Susan assists with maintenance and development of the online Toolkit, curriculum development for training, and communication with NN/LM leadership and network members.

Susan is a native Virginian, whose B.A. is in Studio Art from the University of Richmond (1973), and she is currently a graduate student in the Information Sciences Master’s degree program at the University of Tennessee/Knoxville as a distance education student.
