2008 National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month Press Conference and Kick-Off - SAMHSA-Sponsored
Description
The Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration will unveil the results of the 2007 National Survey on Drug Use and Health at a press conference on Thursday, September 4. The annual survey, formerly called the Household Survey is the largest of its kind, and is the governments primary vehicle for determining how many persons are abusing illegal drugs, pharmaceuticals, alcohol and tobacco.

The release of the 2007 survey results is the keynote of the annual National Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery Month press conference marking a month long observance of the gains made by those in recovery from alcohol and drug abuse, as well as treatment providers.

South Texas Substance Abuse Recovery Services (S.T.S.A.R.S) Is the guiding light in the darkness of addiction within our community. As we all know addiction does not discriminate nor holds no boundaries to those afflicted with its malady. That is why STSARS, was founded in 1969 to assist all those hopeless individuals and families suffering from drugs and alcohol abuse. We have various programs within the agency that assist families, the homeless, methamphetamine addicts and Heroine IV drug users with our methadone program. In order to continue to serve our community we are hosting a fundraiser for sustainability funds.

The Memorial Hermann Prevention and Recovery Center (PaRC) Alumni Association will be hosting the Third Annual Ride for Recovery, Sunday, September 21, 2008 starting at 9:00. This will include an 80 mile ride ending in a Bar-B-Que and speaker meeting. This ride is open to anyone wanting to celebrate recovery, help increase awareness of addiction and recovery as well as raise money for several non-profit shelters in the community. Over 120 bike riders attended last years ride plus family and friends.
