2008 National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month Press Conference and Kick-Off - SAMHSA-Sponsored
Description
The Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration will unveil the results of the 2007 National Survey on Drug Use and Health at a press conference on Thursday, September 4. The annual survey, formerly called the Household Survey is the largest of its kind, and is the governments primary vehicle for determining how many persons are abusing illegal drugs, pharmaceuticals, alcohol and tobacco.

The release of the 2007 survey results is the keynote of the annual National Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery Month press conference marking a month long observance of the gains made by those in recovery from alcohol and drug abuse, as well as treatment providers.

A Bridge To Recovery--SAMHSA-Sponsored
Description
We will begin gathering on the Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge at 1:30 p.m. At 2:00 we will have a brief ceremony on the bridge, will then walk 3-4 blocks to the Country Music Hall of Fame Park. Once at the park, Virginia Betts, Commissioner of TN Department of Mental Health, will welcome everone and make opening remarks. We will then have speakers in recovery from all across Tennessee tell their stories and jazz/blues music provided by local musicians in recovery. Light refreshments will be provided. We will also read the proclamation from Governor Bredeson.

The Tie That Binds
Description
The sponsor is Holy Community United Methodist Church located at 602 Looney Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee.

Holy Community has organized a series of speakers with long-term recovery who will share their stories with the congregation each Sunday as well as with the men and women served by the early-morning breakfast program.

Holy Community has gathered resource materials from the various treatment providers serving Memphis. Brochures, pamphlets, and other descriptive materials will be available to the public on a display table located in the church's foyer.

On Sunday, September 28, at 3:00 pm, Holy Community will host a community-wide worship celebration in honor of the men and women in recovery and their families. The public is invited to attend and participate.
