2008 National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month Press Conference and Kick-Off - SAMHSA-Sponsored
Description
The Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration will unveil the results of the 2007 National Survey on Drug Use and Health at a press conference on Thursday, September 4. The annual survey, formerly called the Household Survey is the largest of its kind, and is the governments primary vehicle for determining how many persons are abusing illegal drugs, pharmaceuticals, alcohol and tobacco.

The release of the 2007 survey results is the keynote of the annual National Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery Month press conference marking a month long observance of the gains made by those in recovery from alcohol and drug abuse, as well as treatment providers.

Recovery Celebration
Description
The Chemical Health Initiative of Goodhue County is joining with several community organizations to sponsor the Celebrate Recovery! Picnic scheduled for Sunday September 21, 2008 at East Park in Zumbrota. There will be free hot dogs and cookies starting at 12:00 noon and running until 3:00 pm. In addition to activities for children, the event will include a presentation by Carol Falkowski, Director of Chemical Health at the Minnesota Department of Human Resources. There will also be presentations by two individuals who will tell their personal stories of the journey they have made from addiction to health. Citizens will be encouraged to nominate friends, neighbors and family members for recovery super star honors during the event, highlighting the Recovery Month theme of Real People, Real Recovery.
