Visitor Information

The GMR office is located in the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Library of the Health Sciences (LHS) on the West Campus of UIC at 1750 West Polk Street. NN/LM GMR and the National Training Center and ClearinghouseExternal Link Indicator conduct training sessions and presentations in the GMR computer classroom in room 303 on the third floor of LHS. Airports

The City of Chicago is served by O'Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport. For Chicago Airport System information, see FlyChicago.comExternal Link Indicator.

Taxi from the airports

Taxi fares from the airports average about $40 from Midway and about $50 from O'Hare. The GMR office is inside the standard shared ride taxi boundaries.

Elevated trains from the airports

O'Hare is served by the Blue Line Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) elevated-subway trains. Take the Blue Line Forest Park train from O'Hare to the Clark/Lake CTA stop. Transfer to the Pink Line and continue on to Polk. Note: The Polk Street stop is no longer served by the Blue Line.

Alternately, take the Forest Park Blue Line from O'Hare to the Illinois Medical District stop, approximately one-half mile northwest of the GMR office. Transfer to CTA Bus #7, Harrison Eastbound at Harrison and Wood, to Polk CTA. If walking from the Illinois Medical District stop, walk east on the long skywalk to the turnstiles, turn right, then walk to the crosswalk. Continue across the cancer center driveway. Go across the street then turn right. Walk until you see the Rush/Presbyterian hospital driveway. Turn left, walking through the driveway towards Polk Street. The library is at 1750 W. Polk Street.

Midway is served by the Orange Line elevated train. Take the Orange Line to the Clark/Lake stop and transfer to the Pink Line to Polk. For more details, see the instructions for the Elevated below.

Bus

There are a number of CTA bus lines that access the Library of the Health Sciences:

  • No. 7, Harrison Street
  • No. 37, Taylor Street
  • No. 48, South Damen Avenue
  • No. 50, Damen Avenue
  • No. 12, Roosevelt Road
  • No. 9, Ashland Avenue

Car

From the north
Take the Kennedy Expressway (90/94) to the Eisenhower Expressway (290) west bound and keep to the right; take the second exit from the Eisenhower Expressway (290), which is Ashland Avenue; take Ashland Avenue south to Polk Street; then go west on Polk Street to the library.
From the south
Take the Dan Ryan Expressway (90/94) and exit at Roosevelt Road; go west on Roosevelt Road to Wood Street; then go north on Wood Street to the library.
From the west
Take the Eisenhower Expressway (290) to the Ashland Avenue exit; take Ashland Avenue south to Polk Street; then go west on Polk Street to the library.
From the east
Take Harrison Street or Roosevelt Road west to Wood Street. If you take Harrison Street, go south on Wood Street to the library, or from Roosevelt Road go north on Wood Street to the library.

Parking

Elevated Train

The GMR is served directly by the Pink Line and indirectly by the Blue Line elevated-subway trains. The Pink Line runs from 54/Cermak to the Loop (downtown) and back. Take the 54/Cermak Pink Line train to the Polk Street stop, which is directly across the street from the Library of the Health Sciences.

The Forest Park Blue Line to the Illinois Medical District stop is approximately one-half mile northwest of the GMR. When taking the Forest Park Blue Line to Illinois Medical District, walk east on the long skywalk to the turnstiles, turn right, then walk to the crosswalk at Congress Parkway. Cross Congress at the light. Walk across the cancer center driveway. Go across the street then turn right. Walk until you see the Rush University Medical Center hospital driveway. Turn left, walking through the driveway towards Polk Street. The UIC Library of the Health Sciences is at 1750 W. Polk. Note: The Polk Street stop is no longer served by the Blue Line.

Lodging

If you are attending a GMR-scheduled meeting, you may book a room at one of the Club Quarters hotels by contacting the GMR office at 1-800-338-7657 and press one (1) for the Regional Network Office or 312-996-2464. Another option closer to campus is the Marriott Chicago Downtown at Medical District/UICExternal Link Indicator (312-491-1234). It is located at 625 South Ashland Avenue which is about three blocks from the GMR Office.
