Asian & Pacific Islander Tobacco Education Network

The Asian and Pacific Islander Tobacco Education Network (APITEN) was formed in 1990 with the mission to organize individuals and organizations to advocate for tobacco-free Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities. The Network strives to counteract the factors that contribute to high smoking levels in our communities, through activities that fall under the following categories...

• Training and Technical Assistance,
• Information Collection and Dissemination
• Policy, Research, and Consortium Partners
• Minigrants to provide one-time funding to conduct short-term tobacco education activities that lead to long-term health improvement in Asian and Pacific Islander communities

Referrals and Promotions of the California Smokers' Helpline
Few services are available in AAPI languages for people who want help to quit smoking. The California Smokers' Helpline is a FREE confidential service available over the telephone to anyone at least 14 years old who wants help to quit smoking or chewing tobacco. The Helpline is available in Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese & Korean as well as English and Spanish. The Helpline offers:

• written materials and quit kits for people who want to quit on their own,
• referral lists of stop smoking programs offered in counties throughout the state,
• one-on-one counseling over the phone for people who are ready to quit and want help.

APITEN invited you to join our electonic mailing list, apitobacco

APITOBACCO is a listserv for network members and prospective members of the Asian and Pacific Islander Tobacco Education Network (APITEN).  This list has, at least, two  functions.  First, APITEN will use the list to share news about tobacco research, policy initiatives, community events, funding opportunities, and media events in Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.  Second, the list will help APITEN members learn from each other by providing a venue for sharing information, experiences, stories, strategies, and opinions about their work in tobacco control.  If you would like to join the listserv please e-mail your request to rbautista@apiahf.org or submit your email in the topica listserv box below.
