NIH Announces the Availability of Recovery Act Funds for Administrative Supplements to Research Grants Providing Summer Research Experiences for Students and Science Educators

National Institute on Drug Abuse
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) announces the opportunity for investigators and institutions with active NIH Research Grants to request administrative supplements for the purpose of promoting job creation, economic development, and accelerating the pace and achievement of scientific research. These supplements will also encourage students to seriously pursue research careers in the health related sciences, as well as provide elementary, middle school, high school and community college science educators with short term research experiences in NIH-funded laboratories.
This initiative is one of several being offered by NIDA to help fulfill the goals of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to help stimulate the economy through support of biomedical and behavioral research. - Summer Research Opportunities in all aspects of drug abuse research for High School and College Students
- Summer Research Opportunities in all aspects of drug abuse research for Science Educators (e.g., Elementary, Middle School and High School Teachers and Community College Faculty)
Funding Priorities:
Also, for this initiative, NIDA will accept requests for the following types of grants (activity codes):
- All active NIDA Research Project Grants, including R01, R03, R15, R21, P01, P30, P50, P60 and cooperative agreements U01 and U19.
The following types of grants (activity codes) will not be accepted:
- U10, U24, R24, R25, R41, R42, R43, R44, T32, F30, F31, F32, all K's
Application Receipt Dates for Administrative Supplements:
Applicants must submit the request through your institution's business office. Requests for a 2-year supplement must be submitted by May 15, 2009.

Timeline for Review of Administrative Supplements:
For FY2009, administrative supplement requests for Providing Summer Research Experiences for Students and Science Educators under NOT-OD-09-060 will be processed as rapidly as possible on a rolling basis as they are received. NIDA anticipates decisions for approval or disapproval will be made by June 15, 2009 for all supplements requests for Summer Research Experiences submitted by the May 15, 2009 receipt date.
