Asthma is a disease that affects the lungs. It is one of the most common long-term diseases of children. It causes repeated episodes of wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness, and nighttime or early morning coughing. This site provides links to asthma sufferers resources including NIOSH Safety and Health Topics, information from the National Center for Environmental Health, speakers kits, basic asthma facts and much more.
External link Asthma & Allergy Prevention
This Web site is designed to help you "SURVIVE THE SEASONS" by providing information on asthma, allergies and some of the most common seasonal and non-seasonal allergens and asthma irritants, such as cigarette smoke, cockroaches, dustmites, house dust, mold, pets and pollen. In addition, they provide "PREVENTIVE STRATEGIES" for each to help individuals avoid exposure to these substances.
External link National Asthma Education and Prevention Program (NAEPP)
NAEPP was initiated in March 1989 to address the growing problem of asthma in the United States. The goals of NAEPP are to: raise awareness of patients, health professionals and the public that asthma is a serious chronic disease; ensure the recognition of the symptoms of asthma by patients, families and the public and the appropriate diagnosis by health professionals; and ensure effective control of asthma by encouraging a partnership among patients, physicians and other health professionals through modern treatment and education programs.
