2007 Industry Roundtable Report

The 2007 OIC Industry Roundtable, held May 9-10, 2007, in Washington, DC, brought together more than 300 emergency responders, industry professionals, and government officials from across the Nation to collaborate on solutions to key technology challenges that confront interoperable communication for the emergency response community.

Over the course of the two-day event, participants chose from a variety of roundtable discussions that addressed critical aspects of the interoperability challenge from various stakeholder perspectives. The agenda included breakout sessions on technical aspects of interoperable communication including Voice-over Internet Protocol (VoIP), Public Safety Broadband, the Project 25 Compliance Assessment Program, Grant Guidance, the National Interoperability Baseline Survey, and Emergency Interoperable Data and Messaging Standards Efforts.  These forums identified opportunities for industry to contribute to the advancement of “product-independent” communications interoperability solutions that support the needs of emergency responders.

Keynote speakers included DHS Under Secretary Jay Cohen, House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson, Representative Dave Reichert, DHS Assistant Secretary Greg Garcia, and a panel of emergency responders from the Westerley Police Department (RI), San Diego Fire-Rescue Department (CA), and the West Virginia Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety.
