Women's Health Week at the National Institutes of Health (NIH)

The National Women’s Health Week will be celebrated the week of May 10-16, 2009 beginning on Mother’s Day, May 10.  This is a nationwide initiative, coordinated by the DHHS Office on Women's Health.  This initiative encourages women to make their health a top priority and take simple steps for a longer, healthier and happier life.  During the week, families, communities, businesses, government, health organizations and other groups work together to educate women about steps they can take to improve their physical and mental health and prevent disease.  For information about DHHS planned activities for that week, please visit http://www.womenshealth.gov/whw/.

Women’s Health Scientific Forum and Panel Discussion:
The Intersection of Research, Policy and Healthcare for the Future of Women’s Health
Tuesday, May 12, 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Location: Lister Hill Auditorium

Hear from leading scientists in the field of women’s health.  The speakers will address a range of issues, including the role of health promotion and prevention, the participation of women and minorities in clinical trials, as well as health policy and regulatory issues, and their impact on women and women’s health research.

Wednesday, May 13 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Location: Building 1 front lawn (In case of inclement weather: rear patio of Building 31)

Proceeds to benefit the “Friends of the Clinical Center”
Join ORWH together with the NIH Division of Police for a “Safety Celebration” in recognition of National Police Week and Women’s Health Week! The exhibit will feature a variety of consumer-oriented materials on women’s health and representatives from the ORWH staff will be available to answer questions.

Focus on You – Promoting Employee Health and Wellbeing at NIH

Dr. Rezvan Ameli (NIMH) will share information on ways to incorporate mind-body relaxation and stress reduction into your busy work and home life. ORWH is promoting participation in this seminar sponsored by the Conditioning and Relaxation Consortium (CORE), a NHLBI supported program.  


ORWH and NLM announce expansion of Women's Health Resources, a user friendly Web portal

This web portal pulls the latest scientific information on women’s health research and now includes videocasts, ORWH Pinn Point on Women's Health podcasts, RSS feeds for MEDLINE/PubMed abstracts, information on current health awareness programs and social media tools to allow users to share information and receive health alerts.
