About HRAC

The First Meeting of the American Indian and Alaska Native Health Research Advisory Council was held on May 16-18, 2006. It was decided that the HRAC Council would be established to provide the Department of Health and Human Services a venue for consulting with Tribes about health research priorities and needs in AI/AN communities and collaborative approaches in addressing these issues and needs.

The Health Research Advisory Council serves three primary functions:

  1. Obtaining input from tribal leaders on health research priorities and needs for their communities.
  2. Providing a forum through which HHS operating and staff divisions can better communicate and coordinate AI/AN health research activities.
  3. Providing a conduit for disseminating information to Tribes about research findings from studies focusing on the health of AI/AN populations.
