PINES GROUP SITE - STONY GORGE RESERVOIR (CA), Northern California Area Office, CA

Description

Stony Gorge Dam, Orland Project, completed in 1928, is on Stony Creek about 18 miles downstream from East Park Dam and 5 miles west of Fruto in western Glenn county. The dam is a concrete slab and buttress structure with a height of 139 feet and a crest length of 868 feet. A warm-water fishery with an 18-mile shoreline. Excellent boating and shoreline accessibility. One boat ramp useable most of the summer, depending on water level. Free camping except for group camping area. Available bass species include largemouth and smallmouth bass of Texan strain that grow faster and mature earlier (10 to 12 pounds). A thriving bluegill and crappie population (2 to 3 pounds). Catfishing good year-round (up to 20 pounds).

Alerts and Important Information

  • There is no electricity or portable water available.
  • There are no backcountry trails.
  • Boats access to Pine Group Camp is limited at low water levels.
  • There is no launch area in Pine Group Camp.
  • Quiet Hours are between 10pm-7am.
  • There is a 14-day maximum stay in any 45-day period.
  • The speed limit on all main roads is 15 M.P.H. and 5 M.P.H. on all other roads. Vehicles can be operated only on designated roadways.
  • Dogs must be on a leash and be physically under control at all times.
  • Firearms, glass containers, parasailing, aircraft, gathering of live wood for firewood, chainsaws, live bands, disc jockeys, and amplified sound systems and excessive noise are all prohibited.

    In Glenn County, located near Elk Creek, CA. Exit Interstate-5 at # 603 - Willows and proceed west on California Highway 162. Travel approximately 20 miles to the junction of County Road 304. Turn south on the roadway and continue over two cattle guards approximately 2.5 miles. Take the first right at Stony Gorge Resevior welcome sign and continue on the gravel surface to the end of the road (approximately 1/4 mile) at which a locked gate marks the entrance of the group camp. Welcome to Pines Group Camp.
