June 2005 Assistive Technology Day

The June Assistive Technology Day event will focus on assistive technology products from Clarity which specialize in technology for persons with low vision. Low Vision means partial sight, or sight that isn’t fully correctable with surgery, pharmaceuticals, contact lenses or glasses. In order for this person to be productive in the workplace there are products available that will enhance written text to enable a person with low vision to see written text at enlarged font size. This is your opportunity to learn more about the following products from Clarity: Deskmate-15” LCD with attached arm, camera, remote and carry bag Classmate-camera, 14: arm, XY table, carry bag clamp mount, distance lens, remote, Tablemate – quick release, distance lens, camera and remote Pocketmate – Hand held Video Magnifier Capture Plus 2.0

Below are descriptions of these products.

This event is free and no registration is required. The length of this demonstration is every hour, starting at 9 a.m. the next at 10:00 a.m. and will be continuous throughout the day at the beginning of each hour and ending at 3 p.m. This event is not an all day demonstration but was designed for you to come in and spend one hour to learn about these unique technologies. If you come in during the demonstration you can stay till the next presentation begins then leave when the information is repeated.

SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETERS, etc: There will be sign language interpreters during the demonstration from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Assistive Listening Devices will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

TIME: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Presentation times: 9, 10, 11, 12, 1, and 2)

LOCATION: U.S. General Services Administration (Central Office) 1800 F. Street, NW Room 1216 Washington, DC 20405

Who can attend: Government employees and non-government employees and individuals interested in technology for persons with disabilities.

Security Information:: All government employees with government ID's can proceed through security checking station, non-government employees will have to sign in and have a CITA employee escort you to room 1216, the guard will call CITA for assistance.

Transportation: Take the Metro, Orange or Blue line to Farragut West, exit the Metro on the 18th street side and walk south on 18th street about 4 blocks. GSA is on the corner of 18th and F Street. Main entrance is at the middle of the building on F Street.

Parking: There are two parking garages on 18th street, one on the right and one on the left just as you pass F Street, between F and G streets.

Additional information on products from Clarity:

Deskmate-15” LCD with attached arm, camera, remote and carry bag. The Deskmate offers a high quality mobile video magnification solution for clients on the go. The 15” LCD with attached arm makes set-up a snap-just plug it in and switch it on. With the carry case and remote this 11 lb. Clarity CCTV provides both portability and versatility. This system can be operated on both AC and DC power. The LCD can also be used as a PC monitor.

Classmate-camera, 14” arm, XY table, carry bag clamp mount, distance lens, remote. This CCTV is ideal for students, writers, hobbyists or anyone needing to see objects plainly at a distance or on a desktop. This system weighs 6 lbs. without the XY table. Portability gives the client the ability to use it in lecture halls, concert venues, theaters, sporting events or at home or in the office. The classmate is compatible with desktop and laptop computers.

Tablemate – quick release, distance lens, camera and remote. The Tablemate CCTV offers classic in-line features of reading and writing using either auto or manual focus. What makes the Tablemate unique to other manufactures is Clarity’s patented camera release mechanism. The client has the option of both near and far viewing capability just by adding a few accessories. Tablemate also offers an optional oscillating arm with a 15” or 20” state of the art flat screen LCD screen. This option gives the client the ability to lower or tilt the screen based on viewing needs.

Pocketmate-Hand held Video Magnifier. Weighs under 15 ounces and provides a 4” LCD screen. Unit retails under $650.00 and comes with a lifetime warranty.

Capture Plus 2.0 This option enables you to use the Clarity system with a desktop or laptop, add background colors and split screen.
