April 2009 Highlights.
1. United States Mint 2009 Presidential $1 Coin Uncirculated Set™ (P&D)

With the 50 State Quarters® Official First Day Coin Cover program now complete, the United States Mint is proud to debut the first coin cover in the new series under the District of Columbia and the U.S. Territories Quarters Program. This limited-edition cover includes two District of Columbia quarters from the first day of mintage – December 10, 2008, one each from the United States Mint facilities at Philadelphia and Denver. 3. Final Coin and Die Sets Available for a Limited Time Only!
Final Coin and Die Sets.

50 State Quarters® Coin and Die Sets for only four states are still available (Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona and Alaska) from the United States Mint and they will be taken off sale at the end of June 2009. These sets include a completely-defaced coin die and one of the first production quarters struck with that die (both Philadelphia and Denver sets are available). The sets also include a Certificate of Authenticity numbered to match the serial number of the die. Make sure to order these sets before they're gone!

5. How's Your Aim?
A Dart hitting a target in the new "Hoop and Darts" game.

The newest game on the H.I.P. Pocket Change™ Web site is called Hoop and Darts. Based on a game originally played by Native Americans, each of two players in this electronic version throws darts through a swinging hoop in order to win the other player’s darts. Come and play this game, created in the spirit of the Native American $1 Coin Program.


6. Happening in April

The United States Mint, "born" on April 2, 1792, celebrates its 217th birthday. This month, join the H.I.P. Pocket Change Pals for the celebration and a stroll down memory lane with the Historic Highlights interactive timeline.

Thanks to Financial Literacy Month, April is also a time to focus on financial literacy. But what is financial literacy? Visit the Financial Literacy page to find lesson plans, games and classroom activities that help your students learn more about earning, saving and spending.


7. The E-Newsletter for Kids, New Issue

The latest issue of the "quarterly" e-newsletter Making Cents celebrates the latest quarter honoring Puerto Rico, the newest game (Hoop and Darts), the first commemorative coin of 2009 (Abraham Lincoln Commemorative Silver Dollar) and the recent navigation changes on the H.I.P. Pocket Change™ Web site. There is also a brand new word scramble puzzle based on the newsletter's contents.
