DIVISION DIRECTOR

EPA's Office of Research and Development (ORD) is seeking an internationally recognized scientific leader to fill the position of Director. Toxicity Assessment Division, in the National Health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory (NHEERL). The NHEERL is located in Research Triangle Park, NC. The NHEERL is the Agency's focal point for scientific research on the effects of contaminants and environmental stressors on human health and ecosystem integrity. Its research mission and goals help the Agency to identify and understand the processes that affect our health and environment. In addition, it provides support to the Agency for its evaluation of the risks that pollution poses to humans and ecosystems. Major duties for this position include:

  • Serves as Director for the Toxicity Assessment Division. In this scientific leadership role, the incumbent has substantial hands-on involvement and participation as he/she plans, develops, oversees, directs, and implements a highly technical and complex science research program that has nationwide impact.
  • Leads an integrated research program in the assessment of toxicological effects in target organ systems.
  • Assesses needs, defines goals, develops research plans, and establishes organizational structure of the Division.
  • Serves as a senior spokesperson/representative for ORD in the area of toxicity assessment, including participation on workgroups within and outside EPA.
  • Seeks opportunities to maximize integrated, multidisciplinary collaborations in addressing the Agency's high priority science issues.
  • Assures the timely and effective dissemination of the Division's research findings to the scientific community through peer reviewed publications and to the appropriate user-community.

Salary and Benefits: This is a Title 42 Authority appointment. The position is a fulltime, renewable, 5-year term appointment. The salary cap is $200,000 per year. Determination of salary is dependent upon qualifications, experience, and other factors. University of Rochester Medical Center
Faculty Position in Neurotoxicology

Applications are invited for a tenure-track faculty position at the Associate Professor level in the Department of Environmental Medicine at the University of Rochester. We seek an outstanding individual with a strong commitment to excellence in research, scholarship, and teaching. The Department of Environmental Medicine hosts an NIEHS Environmental Health Sciences Center of Excellence, an EPA Particulate Matter Center, and an NIEHS Toxicology Graduate Training Program (http://www2.envmed.rochester.edu/envmed/index.html). This individual is expected to maintain a vigorous, creative, and independent research program, and to assume specific leadership roles within the NIEHS Center and the Department of Environmental Medicine.

We are especially interested in applicants that apply cutting-edge approaches to fundamental questions in neurotoxicology particularly those examining the relationship between environmental exposures and neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental diseases, although exceptional candidates working in related areas are also encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will join a highly interactive faculty with research interests in neurotoxicology, pulmonary and developmental toxicology, osteotoxicology, immunotoxicology, and the molecular biology of xenobiotic receptors and transporters. Assistant Professor Toxicology

The Department of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences at Colorado State University seeks a scientist to fill a tenure-track position in toxicology at the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates with interests in any area of molecular, cellular, or systems toxicology are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in cellular injury and aging, DNA damage, gene regulation and epigenetics, and carcinogenesis. The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent, extramurally-funded research program and contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching. FACULTY POSITION

Qualifications:
Candidate must possess a Ph.D., M.D. or the equivalent and postdoctoral experience in environmental genomics, molecular epidemiology, human genetics, or a related area. Extensive experience in the broad field of genomics including proteomics and bioinformatics is desired. The Search Committee is especially interested in receiving applications from individuals experienced in interdisciplinary collaborative research with interests in assessment of gene-environment interactions, molecular epidemiology and toxicogenomics of human diseases. We welcome candidates with experience in evaluating intermediate biomarkers of effect and in examining the health, especially respiratory, cardiovascular, diabetes, reproductive/developmental, and cancer endpoints.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The candidate will be expected to develop his/her own research program in environmental genomics, obtain competitive research funding, and engage in collaborative research with other faculty in the department as well as within the College of Public Health & Social Work and College of Medicine. Responsibilities also include teaching, advising graduate students, and serving on doctoral committees. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to participate in ongoing research with multidisciplinary researchers, and will be expected to develop and maintain an original, creative and independent research program in genetic or molecular environmental epidemiology with evidence of high quality and productivity. This requires publications in high impact peer-reviewed journals and demonstrating the potential for successful submission and management of investigator-initiated grant proposals.

Faculty Positions, UCLA School of Public Health

The Department of Environmental Health Sciences and the Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH) seek candidates for one or more tenured or tenure-track faculty positions in the areas of occupational and environmental health, airborne particle science and exposure assessment. We are seeking a candidate to assume the Directorship of the Southern California Education and Research Center (SC ERC) which is funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Candidates for this position must have demonstrated excellence in research and management and a track record of obtaining significant extramural funding; they must have sufficient qualifications to be appointed at the level of either tenured Associate Professor or Professor. The Director's expertise can be in any area of occupational and environmental health, broadly defined. We will also consider candidates for a separate faculty position at any level (although preference will be given to junior candidates) with demonstrated research excellence in the areas of airborne particle science and exposure assessment.

Applicants should have a doctoral degree or M.D. in Occupational and Environmental Health or in a closely related field. The successful candidate(s) will be expected to demonstrate excellent teaching and scholarship and an independent research program in his/her area of expertise. We are looking for candidates who will advance collaborations with others in the School of Public Health, the COEH, and other units on campus, mentor junior faculty, and advance our commitment to diversity in student bodies, faculty, and staff.
