Provide Outreach

Topics on this page:

The goal of our outreach program is to expand partnerships and implement activities with network members and other institutions and organizations to improve awareness of and access to health information resources for health professionals, the public health workforce, and members of the public

Exhibits and Presentations

This program promotes awareness and ability to access electronic health information. Our staff is available to do presentations, workshops, or to exhibit at your meeting or event free of charge. We highlight NLM and NN/LM services.

Training and Professional Development

Another way we increase the effective use of electronic health information resources is to provide training and professional development opportunities to those who directly provide health information to the public. These providers include Network and other librarians, health professionals (including public health professionals), educators, health advocates, and those working with various community-based organizations.

Collaboration

We work collaboratively with various regional partners to enhance public access to health information and to improve the regional health information infrastructure. We provide resources to facilitate collaboration in the region, including funding for consumer health information projects through subcontracts and cooperative agreements. The Funding Opportunities page includes resources that will help you get what you need to support your vision. To see some of the exciting things your colleagues have done, visit our Funded Outreach Projects (2001-2006) Web page.

Information Rx Toolkit

Information Rx is a free program offered by the National Library of Medicine and the American College of Physicians Foundation to assist physicians in referring their patients to MedlinePlus. The Tool Kit is an online guide to help health sciences librarians promote Information Rx to physicians, patients and their families, and to other libraries and community groups.

Consumer Health Outreach

Consumer Health Services by the New England Region includes free presentations about National Library of Medicine resources, exhibiting at conferences and health fairs, and funding opportunities. Our consumer health information workshops are available to our members and consumers throughout New England. Classes are customized to meet the needs of your organization.
