Twelve Communities Selected for North Carolina Local Government Service Corps
Twelve towns have been selected for the North Carolina Local Government Service Corps. The two-year initiative, a partnership between the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Government and Appalachian State University, is designed to assist some of the most economically distressed communities in the state.

REGIONAL LEADERSHOPS focused on good growth
In four locations across the state, municipal and county managers, county commissioners, council members, planning directors, board members, mayors, and other local leaders gathered recently to consider the complex issues surrounding growth. Good Growth, Chance or Choice?, a program of the Local Elected Leaders Academy, was designed to give veteran leaders hands-on experience with the kinds of decisions they will need to make about growing their communities.

IT professional expands his network through training
While he was working in Lee County, North Carolina, Ryan Draughn attended the School of Government’s CIO Certification Program. Now, as chief information officer for the NC League of Municipalities, he works with other technology professionals in hundreds of cities and towns throughout the state.

The Environmental Finance Center (EFC) helps governments at the local, state, and federal level answer the "how to pay" questions associated with environmental projects. A series of recent Webinars is now available online; topics include stimulus funding for drinking water, sustainable finance for wetlands monitoring, and NC water and wastewater rates for 2009.
