    How do you determine sea level for the place you live?

    Sea level on Earth is defined as the average height of the sea, not taking into account variations due to tides, waves, or storm surges. It is, by definition, the same everywhere -- a property of the planet as a whole, not of any one location. The altitude above (or below) sea level of any particular place on Earth is given on topographic maps or can be calculated with GPS receivers.
