Telecommunications Description

The original plan required TDRS for real-time inspection of data, and downloading the data to the ground, but not for operations of the telescopes. During the mission a problem occurred and the Instrument Pointing System could not be operated by the shuttle crew. A solution was found by real-time commanding of the telescopes via the Ku band on TDRS.
