April 27, 2009 - Gamma-Ray Burst is Most Distant Object Detected
A gamma ray burst (GRB) detected on April 23, 2009 is the most distant object ever seen. NASA's Swift Observatory
detected the GRB at 07:55 UT (00:55 PDT).
It had a redshift of 8.2, meaning that it occurred more than 13 billion years ago when the universe was
only about 600 million years old. This makes it the oldest and most distant object yet detected.

January 6, 2009 - Swift Shows Active Galaxies Are
Different Near and Far
An ongoing X-ray survey undertaken by NASA's Swift spacecraft
is revealing differences between nearby active galaxies and

Welcome to the Swift mission Education and Public Outreach (E/PO) page. Here you will find information about the various projects being done by the Swift E/PO group, as well as cool science, mathematics, and technology learning experiences. Our goal is to use the observations and scientific discoveries of the Swift mission to improve the understanding and utilization of science and mathematics concepts for grades 7-12.
