Committee Assignments

I am honored to serve on the House Appropriations Committee. The Appropriations Committee is divided into twelve subcommittees, which are responsible for allocating actual spending in each area of the federal budget.

Currently I serve on two Appropriations Subcommittees:

  • Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies

The House Appropriations Committee has broad responsibility over the Federal budget. Specifically, the Committee appropriates, or provides, the funds necessary to operate the federal government. It also has the power to rescind funding, transfer balances, and maintain jurisdiction over bills and joint resolutions from other House committees that provide for new spending authority.

The Subcommittee on Legislative Branch (ranking member) has jurisdiction over the House of Representatives, Botanic Garden, Capitol Police, Capitol Visitors Center, Library of Congress and other Legislative entities.

The Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies has jurisdiction over the following departments and agencies:  Department of Commerce; Department of Justice; National Aeronautics and Space Administration; National Science Foundation; Related Agencies: Antitrust Modernization Commission Commission on Civil Rights Equal Employment Opportunity Commission International Trade Commission Legal Services Corporation Marine Mammal Commission National Intellectual Property Law Enforcement Coordination Council National Veterans Business Development Corporation Office of Science and Technology Policy Office of the United States Trade Representatives State Justice Institute.
