The TSC promotes integration among the many current and future scientific projects in the basin, prioritizing future research informed by a comprehensive science plan, creating an environment that promotes contributions from the best available science, and emphasizing close cooperation with land and resource managers to facilitate the transfer of information in an effective manner.

  1. Science planning: Continue to work with Lake Tahoe basin agencies to develop regional monitoring approaches for specific issue areas; these efforts will contribute to the larger goal of establishing a comprehensive monitoring strategy for Lake Tahoe basin resources, habitats, and agents of change.
  2. Focused Science Review and Synthesis: Prepare a summary of science activities in one or more topic areas that communicates relevant finding and relates those findings to current management/policy issues in the Tahoe Basin.
  3. Peer review: Administer the scientific peer review of research proposals, science products, or technical programs related to Lake Tahoe basin management and restoration.
  4. Technical assistance: Provide scientific input and technical advice to resource management agencies, including organization of one or more public workshops that target challenging resource management issues.
  5. Program management: Manage the day-to-day operations and communications of the TSC including interactions with the Federal Interagency Partnership and the Lake Tahoe Federal Advisory Committee; prepare quarterly progress reports.

Timeframe: Annually March through February

  1. Synthesis of recent published findings within the water quality theme, with a brief description of how those finds relate to current key water quality management issues
  2. Monitoring plan that describes standardized methods for monitoring soil disturbance resulting from vegetation management activities in sensitive areas
  3. Peer review of science proposals submitted for funding through SNPLMA Round 10
  4. Review of SNPLMA Round 11 capital proposals
  5. Coordinated development of SNPLMA Round 11 science themes
  6. Preparation for using the Rapid Science Response Reserve in case of an environmental catastrophe
  7. Organization and coordination of public workshop to discuss one of the more challenging management issues in the Tahoe basinĀ 
  8. Continued refinement and application of the TSC website for knowledge transfer to agencies and the public
