Telecommunications Description

Telemetry will be received by Deep Space Network (DSN) stations during three short (1.3 hour) and one long (8 hour) periods per day. Data during other times will be stored on magnetic tape on-board and transmitted during the short ground contact periods. The continuous data rate will be 40 Kbps, but an additional 160 Kbps will be transmitted when the solar oscillations imaging instrument is operating in its high bit-rate mode. This will happen either daily during the 8 hour periods or during dedicated campaigns when the satellite will have 24 hour DSN coverage.
