CONGRESSMAN ADERHOLT STATEMENT ON THE NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) issued the following statement about the National Day of Prayer.

"Because of the faith of many of our founding fathers, national days of prayer have a long-standing and significant history in American tradition. This nation is great because our founding fathers committed to prayer and the principles of their faith and it’s important for America to remember our heritage.”

"At this tough time in our country’s history, it is vitally important that we recognize more fully the importance of prayer and a nationally recognized National Day of Prayer."

Congressman Aderholt served as the Congressional sponsor and a member of the advisory committee for the National Day of Prayer Observance held at the U.S. Capitol on May 7th.  The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for America. The National Day of Prayer was officially created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. Every president since 1952 has signed a National Day of Prayer proclamation. This year marked the 58th annual observance.
