CONGRESSMAN ADERHOLT STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF FORMER ALABAMA GOVERNOR GUY HUNT

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) today issued the following statement on the death of former Alabama Governor Guy Hunt.

“Caroline and I were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Guy Hunt and our thoughts and prayers are with his family. I had the privilege of getting to know Governor Hunt as a young boy and looked up to him as a great leader for our state. Governor Hunt was not only a leader for the state but he was also a very respected husband, father, minister and friend to so many people across the state.”

“In 1987 Mr. Hunt became Alabama's first Republican governor since Reconstruction during a time when many thought a Republican could not be elected to lead our state. His Governorship broke the one party rule in our state that had been in place for over 100 years and I believe that his election was helpful in the progress of our state’s political process.”
