PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS
The West Side Shooting Range on the North River Ranger District is now open.
The Elizabeth Furnace Family
Campground and Day Use Area will
have reduced services during the
2008 summer season. Due to a faulty
water system the flush
toilet/shower buildings will be
closed as well as the dump station
and hydrants. There will be no
water in the Day-Use area. Campers
can get water from the hand-pump
located near the campground
entrance. Vault toilets will be
open in both the campground and the
picnic area. Reduced fees of $10.00
per night per site will be
collected. It is anticipated that
the water system will once again be
operational for the 2010 season. We
apologize for any inconvenience
this may cause.

April 22, 2009: Access to the Cub Run and Big Mountain areas in Page County may be affected between April 27 and the end of October 2009. A Forest Service contractor is replacing two low water bridges. The first to be replaced is the crossing near Catherine Furnace where Roaring Run empties into Cub Run. While this section is closed, access will be available from Runkles Gap Road (State Route 636) in Rockingham County. The second low water crossing to be replaced is located at the confluence of Cub Run and Pitt Springs. While this section is closed, access to Pitt Springs Road will be via Newport on Sate Route 685, and access to Cub Run will be available from Runkles Gap Road.
OHV and ATV operators are required to purchase a recreation permit to use this trail system. Permits are available for $5 for one day, $12 for 3 consecutive days, or $30 for an annual permit. These are available from the Lee Ranger District Office in Edinburg and from a number of vendors. For more information, see http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/gwj/lee/recreation/ohv/index.shtml.
There is currently no water available at the Wolf Gap recreation area until further notice.
