DOJ/OPDAT International Visitors Program
To complement its overseas programs, OPDAT also serves as the Department's liaison between
various private and public agencies which sponsor visits to the United States by foreign
officials interested in a closer examination of the U.S. legal system. International visitors
with specific interests are given the opportunity to meet with practitioners in more specialized
components of the Department. OPDAT's International Visitors Program builds long-term justice
sector relationships, bilateral and multilateral, with foreign criminal justice sector experts
and helps to promote their responsiveness to US requests for case-specific legal assistance.
In Fiscal Year 2008, OPDAT coordinated meetings for 1,612 overseas visitors and Department of Justice representatives who invested 580 hours of their time from components such as the Counterterrorism Section, Public Integrity
Section, Computer Crimes and Intellectual Property Section, Organized Crime and Racketeering
Section, Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Civil Rights Division, Civil Division, and
Anti-Trust Division.
