  1. Question

how do you find out if there is life on other planets? what equipment do you use?

This is a difficult question, which has been the subject of several past questions to Ask an Astrobiologist. Scientists do not yet have a straightforward way to search for life, other than by returning samples to Earth for analysis. So far, most astrobiology missions have concentrated on looking for possibly habitable environments, present or past, rather than on the search for life itself. For more discussion, look for past answers, searching on the term "habitability". David Morrison
