Citizen Advisory Commission (C.A.C.)

Mission
The Citizen Advisory Commission was established by Congress on October 31, 1988, and reauthorized in 1998. The Commission advises the Secretary of the Interior on matters pertaining to the management and operation of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, as well as on other matters affecting its surrounding communities.

Members
As of January 2007, the Commission is composed of the following 11 members appointed by the Secretary of the Interior:
ϑ  2 members from among residents of New Jersey nominated by the Governor of New Jersey
ϑ  2 members from among residents of Pennsylvania nominated by the Governor of Pennsylvania
ϑ  2 members nominated by the Superintendent of Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area
ϑ  5 county members, nominated by the county administration of each county,
     1 member from among the residents of each of the following counties:
     Sussex County NJ, Warren County NJ
     Pike County PA, Monroe County PA, Northampton County PA

These members of the Commission volunteer their time and do not receive additional pay, allowance, or benefits for their services.

Meetings
The Commission holds public meetings five times a year, alternating between the five counties surrounding the recreation area in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The public is invited to bring issues of concern to the meetings for discussion with Commission members and park staff. Upcoming public meetings will be listed on the park's Calendar of Events
as soon a press release is issued by the park announcing the meeting.

Did You Know?
... that in the 1750s, the northwest border of New Jersey (now Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area) was a frontier of the English colonies. In the French & Indian (Seven Years) War, a string of forts protected these settlements. The sites of seven of these outposts are in the park.
