(Amarillo) The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is opening a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Pampa to help homeowners, renters, and business owners who suffered losses in the recent Texas Panhandle wildfires.
FEMA announced earlier this week that wildfire victims in Gray, Hutchinson, Wheeler, and Roberts are eligible for individual assistance. The DRC's purpose is to answer questions and to help connect people with the resources that can assist in their recovery.
Congressman Mac Thornberry (TX-13) applauded FEMA for moving quickly to open a DRC in the region.
"I think FEMA has done a good job in finding a location that should be fairly convenient for everyone needing to talk to someone about assistance," said Thornberry.
Thornberry also offered the reminder that anyone seeking assistance through FEMA must register in order to be eligible. Those wanting to apply for assistance can call FEMA's toll-free number at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362).
The DRC will be located at the Gray County Annex at 12125 E. Frederick in Pampa from Friday, April 7 through Thursday, April 13, 2006. Hours of operations will be:
· Friday, April 7 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
· Saturday, April 8 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
· Sunday, April 9 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
· Monday, April 10 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
· Tuesday, April 11 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
· Wednesday, April 12 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
· Thursday, April 13 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
FEMA assistance can include rental assistance, reimbursement for hotel and motel expenses, cash grants for home repair and/or replacement, and help with disaster-related needs. Additionally, FEMA encourages individuals visiting the DRC to bring identification and copies of their insurance policies to expedite assistance.
