|
Washington, DC -- Congressman Mac Thornberry today voted in favor of H.R. 4986 - the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008. The bill authorizes $506.9 billion in discretionary budget authority for the Department of Defense (DoD) and the national security programs of the Department of Energy. Additionally, the legislation authorizes $189.4 billion in supplemental funding to support current operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere in the Global War on Terrorism. "I am pleased that the House leadership was able to resolve their differences with the White House and move this bill quickly to the floor. Passage of the bill will give DoD and the Department of Energy the necessary spending authority to move forward on projects important to our national defense, including the Sheppard Air Force Base ramp in Wichita Falls and safety upgrades to the Pantex plant in Amarillo."
