Fire Prevention & Safety Grants Program Accepting Applications Until November 30
Washington, DC - Congressman Mac Thornberry today announced that the application period for awards under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Fiscal Year (FY) 2007 Fire Prevention & Safety (FP&S) Grants Program opened October 22, 2007 and closes on November 30, 2007. The application kit will be made available online at: http://www.firegrantsupport.com and at www.grants.gov.
Thornberry pointed out that the FP&S Grant Program is part of FEMA's Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program, whose purpose is to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire and fire-related hazards. FP&S grants provide support for efforts to mitigate incidence of death and injury caused by fire and fire-related hazards, especially in high-risk target groups such children, the elderly, and firefighters. In addition, FP&S supports Firefighter Safety Research and Development activities. Using a competitive process and fire service subject matter experts, DHS will award grants to applicants whose requests best address the priorities of the FP&S program.
The FY 2007 Appropriations Act for the Department of Homeland Security (P.L. 109-295) provided $547 million under the FY 2007 AFG Program. Congress mandated that no less than five percent of appropriated funds be set aside for FP&S activities. Thus, $27.35 million is available for FY 2007 FP&S awards. Organizations interested in additional information should contact Andrew White at 202-786-9452, or Michael Cappannari at 202-447-5457. -30 |
