Baldwin, Price Introduce Legislation to Promote State Innovation in Health Reform

To assist the growing number of states tackling the serious problem of uninsured Americans, Representatives Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Tom Price (R-GA) have introduced a bipartisan resolution expressing Congressional support for state innovations in health care reform and recognizing the need to empower states to implement change. In recent years, Baldwin and Price led a bipartisan, bicameral effort to promote state innovations in solving the growing health care crisis. Under the Obama Administration, which has established national health care reform as one of its highest priorities, Baldwin and Price hope to ensure that any national action is improved by innovative state action.

“Health care reform is an essential component of our economic recovery and growth going forward," said Rep. Baldwin who has made health care for all her paramount concern. "State initiatives can help make federal reform smarter, safer, swifter, and more cost efficient. I'm proud of the bipartisan efforts my colleagues and I have made in the House and look forward to working with the Administration to achieve our goals,” Baldwin said.

“People on both sides of the aisle recognize that the number of Americans without health insurance is unacceptable,” said Rep. Price, an orthopaedic surgeon. “The bipartisan federalism approach empowers states to develop methods that best suit their unique needs and increases access to quality health care for patients. By encouraging states to play a leading role, we can make coverage more accessible and affordable for all Americans,” Price said.
