Volunteers Needed for Nutrition Study

The Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center is recruiting subjects for a Nutrition Study. Men and women with moderately high cholesterol and normal blood pressure without medication, aged 25-65 years old, will be selected after a medical evaluation and blood and urine screening. Subjects will be asked to complete a nutrition questionnaire and consume test diets foods containing barley. Diet will be controlled for 17 weeks.

All food will be provided by the Center for this period and no other food or beverages will be allowed. Blood and breath samples will be collected weekly and urine will be collected during each of four periods. The study is planned for the Spring of 2002--February-June. Subjects selected for the study will be required to consume breakfast and dinner, Monday-Friday at the Beltsville Human Study Facility. Subjects will be paid $1,000.00 for completing the study. Science Fair Judges Needed

Goddard Education Programs has received a request for volunteers to serve as judges at:

Martin Luther King Academic Center Science Fair on Thursday, January 31, 2002. at the MLK Academic Center Science Fair, 4545 Ammendale Road, Beltsville, Md. A light breakfast and lunch will be served. Participation will involve judging time and conversation with student scientists discussing their projects related to math and science. Alice Deal Junior School Science Fair, on Tuesday February 5, 2002 at 3815 Fort Drive, NW., Washington, DC,. John Burroughs Elementary School Science Fair, on Friday, February 22, 2002, at the school which is located at 1820 Monroe Street, N.E., Washington, DC. The Science Fair committee cordially extends an invitation to you for participation in judging time and conversation with students discussing their projects and experiences investigating selected math, science and technology topics. As a judge you will review the exhibits and then spend time interviewing students regarding their use of scientific thought, methods, visual appearance and creativity. St. Jane Frances School Science Fair, on February 28, 2002 in Pasadena, Md. Volunteers will participate in judging time and engage in conversation with fourth and fifth grade student scientists discussing their projects and evaluating student oral presentations. Judges can participate starting at 11:00 am to 2:30 pm. There are nine categories ranging from Behaviorial Science to Physics. Howard County Science, Mathematics, and Technology Fair, on Saturday, March 2, 2002 at Long Reach High School, 6101 Old Dobbin Lane, Columbia, MD. Participates will judge approximately 10-15 exhibits, and spend between 5-10 minutes interviewing each student about his/her projects and experiences investigating selected math, science and technology topics. Judging will began at 8:30 - 9:00 a.m. with refreshments and a briefing discussing logistics, concluding by 12:30 p.m. As a judge you will review the exhibits and then spend time interviewing students regarding their use of scientific thought, methods, visual appearance and creativity.
