Tribal Law and Order...
The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Law and
Order Department was established around February of
1986.
Today it consists of 16 officers, 10 detention officer /
dispatchers, 3 drug investigators, 3 community officers,
a police clerk and one police cook.
The dispatcher/ detention guards are responsible for
answering the phone calls from the public and
dispatching Police Officers, Fish and Wildlife Officers,
Ambulance, Fire, Hazmat and other emergency personnel as
well as taking care of inmates needs at the tribal jail.
The police department provides services twenty-four
hours a day seven days a week. In addition to
investigating crimes and taking reports from individuals
the officers also provide security for several tribal
functions, including meetings, polls, Pow-Wows,
funerals, buildings, and sites which may require extra
patrol.
The Community Service Officers will assist with the
security at school functions and events when they finish
their training in December of 2002.
The Drug Task Force Officers respond as part
of the North West Drug Task Force, which covers a five
county area that encompasses most of Western Montana.

Task Force are available to give talks and presentations
at schools or community events.
Officers do safety presentations at Halloween for the
head start kids and deliver presents donated by the
Confederated Salish and Kootenai employees at Christmas. |
