Fact Sheets

One of the earliest identified needs for the U.S. EPA Aging Initiative was to translate research findings into public health interventions. The first issued fact sheet was entitled, "Age Healthier, Breathe Easier," a brief one-page fact sheet that outlines simple steps that older adults with living with asthma and COPD can take to reduce and control the frequency of their symptoms. The Aging Initiative has created a series of fact sheets that provide information on environmental health hazards for older adults and their caregivers as well as public health and aging professionals.

These easy-to-read fact sheets are intended to provide sound advice about environmental hazards ranging from air pollution to drinking water contaminants. Recognizing that those who may be at the greatest risk may also have limited proficiency in English, we have translated the fact sheets into a number of languages. In addition, we prepared a "purple series" written for persons with limited reading ability. We also placed on our website a large font series of these fact sheets to make it easier to read for those of us with aging eyes.
