Since its inception, DOE's VPP program has been exceptionally successful in encouraging and recognizing excellence in occupational safety and health protection. Sites that have been accepted to the program have conclusively demonstrated the value of the DOE-VPP in enhancing workplace safety programs and reducing injury rates.
In addition, tangible improvements and successes have been evidenced by improvements in employee morale, productivity, facility pride, employee empowerment and participation, as well as decreased downtime, and improved cooperation and commitment among workers and management.
In order to recognize Individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to advance the message and spirit of VPP, DOE VPP has established the following Annual Achievement Awards:
In order to further recognize those DOE-VPP sites that have achieved DOE-VPP recognition while reporting injury/illness incidence rates and lost workday injury/illness rates well below the BLS national average, has demonstrated achievement in meeting annual DOE-VPP goals, and possessing strong involvement VPP outreach, the DOE VPP program has established Annual Achievement Awards called the ‘Star of Stars.’
The 'Star of Star' Achievement award has two categories: 'Star of Excellence' and 'Superior Star.' To qualify as a Star of Excellence and receive a plaque recognizing their exemplary achievement, a site should achieve reporting injury/illness incidence rates and lost workday injury/illness rates at least 75% below the BLS national average for their SIC/NAICS code, meet annual DOE-VPP goals, and demonstrate strong involvement in the VPPPA, VPP mentoring, and outreach.
The recipients of this years awards will be presented during the DOE VPP workshop at the VPPPA Conference in New Orleans on August 28, 2001. This years recipients of both individual and site awards are being notified in Advance.
