May 7, 2009 Langevin Visits Gilbert Stuart Middle School - WARWICK, RI - Congressman Jim Langevin will tour the Gilbert Stuart Middle School in Providence and meet with administrators, educators and students on Friday, May 8. May 6, 2009 Social Security Recipients to Receive $250 Economic Recovery Payment - WASHINGTON, DC - Today, the Rhode Island Congressional Delegation announced that social security recipients will receive one-time, $250 economic recovery payments beginning tomorrow, May 7, with the goal of getting them all out by the end of this month. By mid-May, payments to recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits will also begin to go out. These payments are provided under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which was supported by Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and Representatives Patrick Kennedy and Jim Langevin, and signed into law by President Obama on February 17, 2009.

April 30, 2009 Statement on the Credit Cardholders' Bill of Rights - Madam Speaker, I rise in strong support of H.R. 627, the Credit Cardholders’ Bill of Rights Act. Last week, I hosted my first telephone town hall meeting and my constituents called in with questions and concerns about what can be done to stop the deceptive practices by credit card companies. I was pleased to tell them that I was a cosponsor of this bill, which provides a sensible approach to reforming major credit card abuses and improving consumer protections for cardholders.
