Wisconsin Monument Gets A Makeover

Part of the Andersonville NHS enabling legislation instructs the park to protect and preserve those monuments located within the prison and cemetery sites. To that end, the Wisconsin monument had its mortar joints repointed last year. After completing the monument, it appears much as it would just a few years after the dedication. Read an article on the makeover written by Jay Womack in March 2008 here.

Did You Know?
The site of Andersonville prison was owned by both the Grand Army of the Republic and the Woman’s Relief Corp before being purchased by the federal government in 1910. The prison site was administered, along with Andersonville National Cemetery, by the Department of the Army until 1971.
