WASHINGTON, D.C. – Missouri Congressman Roy Blunt today issued the following statement after President Barack Obama announced the details of his $3.4 trillion federal budget for the upcoming fiscal year:
“President Obama’s goal of restoring fiscal responsibility is certainly laudable, but the details are almost laughable. The $17 billion worth of cuts is a good starting point but it amounts to just one-half of one percent when compared to the overall massive size of his proposed budget. It’s even less promising when accompanied by the President’s admission that these savings will immediately be spent funding new government programs instead of reducing the deficit.
“Families, farmers and small businesses across Missouri and America are tightening their belts in these tough economic times. It is time the federal government follows their lead.”
