The four species of rattlesnakes which live within the monument prefer spending the day resting under tall grasses and bushes near the trails. However, these shy reptiles try to avoid human contact, so the chances of an encounter during your visit are slim. That is, unless you decide to wander off the trails and step on one. Which, by the way, we don't recommend.
