What are the Caregiving Legacy Awards?
They are monetary awards to recognize organizations that are responding to a community need with a program or project which focuses primarily on family caregivers of adults with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. With a grant from The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation, Family Caregiver Alliance (FCA) is initiating the first annual Rosalinde Gilbert Innovations in Alzheimer's Disease Caregiving Legacy Awards program.

Who is eligible to apply for the Caregiving Legacy Awards?
Remember, caregiving need not be the main focus of the organization. Eligible entities are:

Can I submit my program/project to be considered for an award under more than one category?
No, you must select only one of the three categories. In your online application, you will be prompted to select only one category and you will only have the option of choosing one. However, if the reviewing team or the judges consider your program/project to be more appropriate under another category, you will be contacted and asked for permission to have your program/project switch categories.

I’m in the middle of implementing my program/project. Can I still apply?
The purpose of these awards is to recognize organizations whose programs/projects have demonstrated success. The nominated program/project has to have been active during the calendar year of 2007 and/or 2008. If the program/project involves a major culminating event, that event must have occurred prior to application deadline. If your program is active today because it is recurring, then it must have completed at least the first cycle or round of activity in order for it to qualify. Ongoing programs must have been active long enough to demonstrate some success.

I hit the "Confirm" button before I was able to complete my application. What happens now?
Once you confirm your application, you cannot make any changes to the submitted form. If you hit the “Confirm” button by accident and your application is incomplete, the best approach would be to resubmit a new application (the incomplete one will be disregarded by the reviewing team).

When is the deadline for applications?
The deadline for applications (plus proof of nonprofit status, if applicable) is August 15, 2008 5:00 pm PDT.

How and when do I find out whether I won?
The winners will be announced in November 2008. You will be contacted by Family Caregiver Alliance if you are one of the winners before the official announcement is made. Therefore, it is essential that you keep your contact information updated. If changes occur after the time you applied, you can send us an email with your updates at awards@caregiver.org.

In case I win, do I have to spend the award money on this particular program/project?
Remember this is an award and not a grant. You need not spend the award money on the particular program/project, but Family Caregiver Alliance and The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation do wish to learn how the award money further advanced the mission of your organization.
