Transshipments are shipments that enter or exit the United States by way of a
U.S. Customs port on the northern or southern border, but whose origin or destination
is a country other than Canada or Mexico. All figures are based on the declared
gross shipment weight and include packaging. Shipping weight for imports may be
underestimated because U.S. Customs Service does not require weight to be reported
at the individual commodity level for surface trade.
