April 3, 2009 - Legislative Email Update: Fighting for Auto Jobs

Yesterday, Congress passed the President's $3.6 trillion budget. I offered three important amendments that unfortunately were not approved by Democrat leaders.  These amendments would have:

  • Delayed implementation of new CAFE rules that will cost the auto industry billions
  • Eliminated taxes on unemployment compensation and severance pay
  • Fully funded trade enforcement to level the playing field between the United States and countries like China or other nations that use unfair trade practices to steal American jobs

Rest assured, I will continue to fight for these important priorities to protect Michigan jobs.

I was interviewed on MSNBC on the push to force General Motors and Chrysler into bankruptcy.
