U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, MI-08, released the following statement this afternoon regarding the announcement of the bankruptcy of Chrysler and an agreement for Chrysler to merge with Fiat:

“Today is a bad day that could have been worse. A Chrysler-Fiat merger could do good things for Michigan, but a filing for bankruptcy means Michigan families will again be asked to wait while management, labor, suppliers, dealers and creditors try to sort out just how this deal will work.

“While the court works through the bankruptcy, Congress and the President must work together to make sure that jobs are protected, including the jobs at the suppliers and dealers that make the auto industry work.”
