City Council Meeting

The next meeting of the Greensboro City Council will be held Tuesday, March 19, at 5:30 pm in the Council Chamber of the Melvin Municipal Office Building, 300 W. Washington St. The meeting is open to the public. Free parking is available in the Greene Street Parking Deck after 5 pm. The meetings are also aired live on Channel 13 and through videostreaming on this Web site.

Your Input Welcomed in Search for New City Manager
City Council wants your input on the search for a new City Manager. Two meetings will be held to give you a chance to talk to the coordinator of the search. The meetings will be  held Wednesday, May 20, in Room 3 of the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center, 1921 W. Lee St. You can attend either the 5:30-7 pm meeting or the 7-8:30 pm meeting. Both meetings will give you an opportunity to voice any concerns that might impact the selection of a new manager.

Police Warn that Plasma TVs are Hot Item for ThievesGreensboro Police Department
Recently there has been an increase in commercial burglaries involving theft or attempted theft of plasma televisions. The Greensboro Police Department is requesting your assistance in reducing and solving these crimes. GPD is asking business owners to make sure their businesses and televisions are adequately secured at all times. Learn more now. Midnight Basketball Returns

BasketballThis summer, The Next Level of the Triad and The Hope Project are bringing back Midnight Basketball at Barber Park! Each Friday from May 15 to August 14, middle and high school students are invited to come out to the Simkins Indoor Sports Pavilion at Barber Park, 1500 Dan's Rd., for some of the best pick-up games in the city! Games run from 8:30-11:30 pm. Bring your friends and form a team, or join up with other players. Learn more.

GPD's Crime Stoppers Program Recognized for Excellence
Crime StoppersThe Greensboro Police Department’s (GPD) Crime Stoppers program was recently 
honored with the Productivity Award by the Southeastern Crime Stoppers Association. GPD won the award for having the most arrests and dollar amount of recovery in the Southeastern United States (Delaware to Florida) for 2008. Last year, GPD’s Crime Stoppers made 720 arrests and recovered $242,320 in drugs and property.

Rental Units Must Be Certified

All residential rental property in Greensboro -- occupied and vacant -- must be inspected prior to leasing to make sure it complies with the new Rental Unit Certificate of Occupancy (RUCO) ordinance. The City’s regulation makes sure housing is safe, sanitary and fit for human habitation. To find out if an apartment, townhouse, condo or home you’re interested in renting is certified, search the unit's address.
