The Federal Aviation Administration, after reviewing concerns about a project at a regional airport named after Rep. John P. Murtha (D-Pa.), has decided to go forward with plans to use $800,000 in stimulus funds to repave the airport's alternate runway.

In its zeal to go “high tech,” the usually redoubtable Census Bureau has already assured the 2010
head count of U.S. residents will be the most expensive in history, even after adjusting for
inflation. At a projected $14.5 billion, next year’s census will cost more than twice the
expenditure for the 2000 enumeration – mainly because agency officials contracted for a halfmillion hand-held computers, and then mismanaged production of the devices. The result is $3.6 billion in wasted taxpayers’ funds.

The government will have to borrow nearly 50 cents for every dollar it spends this year, exploding the record federal deficit past $1.8 trillion under new White House estimates. Budget office figures released Monday would add $89 billion to the 2009 red ink - increasing it to more than four times last year's all-time high as the government hands out billions more than expected for people who have lost jobs and takes in less tax revenue from people and companies making less money.

When it comes to federal spending, there's a pattern emerging with President Obama, and it's not a flattering one. The president says all the right things about the importance of getting the deficit under control, but his actions don't come close to matching his rhetoric.
