Maps of the Payette National Forest, the Frank Church - River of No Return Wilderness, and other selected National Forest maps in Idaho may be purchased in person at the Weiser, Council, New Meadows, and McCall Ranger District Offices. Please contact us for more information.

You may purchase maps by mail from the Interagency Visitor Center (USDA Forest Service/USDI Bureau of Land Management) in Boise, Idaho. Please see attached order form for more information.

VISITOR MAPS
National Forest Visitor Maps provide information on recreational uses, trails, roads, streams, lakes, visitor centers, facilities available, campgrounds and picnic areas. The map also displays color photographs of points of interest and activities. Each map covers all or part of one national forest, and the scale is generally 1/2 inch per mile (1:126,720). These maps do not show topography of the land (i.e., the natural features such as mountains, valleys, and plains illustrated through contour lines on the map).

WILDERNESS MAPS
National Forest Wilderness Maps are topographic maps, which show natural features, such as mountains, valleys, plains, lakes, rivers, and vegetation. This is done through contour lines depicting elevation gain or loss. This way you will have a sense about how steep that mountain is that you'll be climbing this weekend! Each map covers all or part of one wilderness area and the scale is generally 1 inch per mile (1:63,360).

TOPOGRAPHIC MAPS
"Topographic Maps" provide the greatest level of detail and only cover small portions of a forest. These maps are available to purchase from the US Geological Survey, many individual forests, and many retail outlets. To view these maps online go to the USGS National Geological Map Database scroll to the bottom to the "DIGITAL MAPS (for sale and/or download)" then Click on their link "View USGS Maps and Aerial Photo Images Online". You will be offered a variety of links where you can view maps online.

The most comprehensive source for maps is the US Geological Survey.
