Eight students, who were nominated to the nation's military academies by U.S. Rep. Howard Coble (R-NC), have received appointments, the 6th District representative announced today.  Congressman Coble said that the students come from Davidson, Guilford, Moore and Rowan counties.

Two of the students have been offered appointments to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Zachary Nelson Anderson, son of Renee and Eric Anderson in Southern Pines, attends Pinecrest High School and has accepted the appointment.  Additionally, Jacob Michael Shuping has received an appointment.  Michael attends East Rowan High School and is the son of Kim and Jody Shuping in Salisbury.

Receiving appointments to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, are Barry Evan Feinstein of Greensboro and Seth Ross Stewart of Greensboro.  Barry is the son of Abby and David Feinstein and is a senior at the American Hebrew Academy. Seth is the son of Beth and Aaron Stewart and is a senior at Grimsley High School.

Four of the students have accepted appointments to the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York.  James David Watson, a senior at East Davidson High School, is the son of Adella and Jim Watson in Thomasville.  Robert John Barnett of Greensboro, attends Western Guilford High School, and is the son of Denise Triplett and Todd Barnett.  William Tyler Lane, a senior at Southeast Guilford High School, is the son of Marcia and Michael Lane of Greensboro.  Megan Moore has also accepted an appointment to West Point.  She is the daughter of Sharon and Kevan Moore in Greensboro and graduated from Grimsley High School in 2008.

“Yet again, the 6th District has produced an outstanding group of potential nominees to our nation’s service academies,” Rep. Coble noted.  “I am sure that these young men and women will make our district proud and will go on to serve our country with distinction and honor.  I want to thank our Academy Screening Committee for doing all of the hard work in screening and interviewing our many candidates and assisting us in compiling our final list of nominees.”

Rep. Coble said that there may be a few more appointments that could be announced at a later date.
