FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

McCall and Council District Ranger Detailers Announced

The Payette National Forest is pleased to announce that the Forest Supervisor has selected two long-time Forest Service employees to temporarily fill the post of District Ranger in the Council and McCall Ranger Districts. Each detail will last about 3-4 months until permanent replacements are selected for outgoing District Rangers Mary Farnsworth (Council RD) and Shane Jeffries (McCall RD).

Dave Hogen, Forest Fisheries Biologist for the Fremont - Winema National Forest in Oregon has been selected to detail as District Ranger for the Council Ranger District. No stranger to this area, Dave worked in New Meadows as a seasonal in 1992, and then as a Fisheries Biologist on the Council and Weiser Ranger Districts for several years until 2005, when he went to work in Oregon.  Dave graduated from the University of Idaho, where he also earned his Master’s in Fishery Resources.  He enjoys skiing, hunting, and the fine art of home brewing and is looking forward to returning to Idaho and the Payette National Forest.  Dave’s son was born in McCall, and his wife grew up in the area.

Frankie Romero has been selected to detail as the District Ranger for the McCall Ranger District. He is currently the Base Manager of the McCall Smokejumper Base in McCall. Prior to this assignment he was a Zone Fire Management Officer for the White River National Forest and Glenwood Springs BLM in Western Colorado.  Frankie started with the Forest Service in 1985 as a firefighter and came to McCall to work as a smokejumper in 1989.  He has spent 16 of the past 20 years working on the Payette National Forest in various posts including Assistant Fire Management Officer on the Krassel and Weiser Ranger Districts and in the Supervisor's Office as Forest Fuels Specialist.  Frankie graduated from New Mexico State University and earned his Master’s degree in Forestry from Colorado State University.  Frankie and his family love the outdoors and enjoy snow sports, fishing, boating, and any excuse to get out in the woods together.

Forest Supervisor Suzanne Rainville said, “Both of these individuals have a strong background in natural resource management and are familiar with the issues affecting this area.  This experience will be invaluable in the coming months as the Payette National Forest moves forward with a variety of decisions that will guide forest management in the future. I look forward to working with them.”
